Religion?

Warning: This ends up in a sort of religious rant, skip this entry if you're touchy about the subject.

I saw a movie not so long ago Called Mr. Frost. It's probably around the third time I see it and I still consider it to be great. Has any of you ever seen it? It deals with this man, Mr. Frost, being a serial killer. He gets caught and several corpses are found in his backyard, he's sentenced to go to a mental hospital. Through all this time he decides to speak only to a psychologist after the last words he mentioned were to the police man who caught him. Throughout the movie we see Mr. Frost trying to convince his psychologist that he is Satan himself. He goes around doing many things to convince the psychologist ranging from somehow convincing a man to start shooting priests to making a silver ring liquid. He goes through all this because he wants his psychologist to kill him. They'll end with thousands of years of science he says, he'll be reborn. He came to this world and allowed himself to get caught because humans are messing up his plans. People no longer have faith, they don't believe in him, they believe in science. This movie really made me think.

I believe it was LaVey who said "its not easy being evil in a world that's gone to hell". Which is true I mean, look around yourselves. What could The Devil do that humans haven't made out of their own initiative already? Most people think that the convert of a creature such as Satan is quite archaic. A lot of people nowadays don't really see someone being completely good or evil but somewhere in between. Hell is shall we call it so last season? I personally don't see myself going to hell even if I recognize that I have committed more than one of the seven deadly sins in multiple occasions. I continuously meet more and more atheists and people tend to be too busy with their life to pay attention to any kind of faith. Is faith really needed? I mean we've seen people leave drug addiction because they find God or some other higher power but how many people have we seen killing in the name of God?

I'm a pagan, an eclectic one at that. My beliefs are very defined but ultimately I'm not a religious person. Usually religious fanatics tend to be quite aggressive with me. It once went to the point of me not being very welcomed in a religious store solely on the fact of me being slightly extravagant in my appearance. With the treatment I've sometimes received I have wondered what's worst, religion or the lack of it?

"The atheist realizes that there must not only be an acceptance of his right to hold his opinion, but that ultimately his is the job to turn his culture from religion, to eliminate those irrational ideas which have held the human race in intellectual slavery." Madalyn Murray O'Hair

"If we exalt money, status, or sex above the Word of God, we are living in idolatry. Every time we inwardly submit to the strongholds of fear, bitterness, and pride, we are bowing to the rulers of darkness. Each of these idols must be smashed, splintered, and obliterated from the landscape of our hearts." Francis Frangipane

"If prominent leaders of the Christian faith are rejecting the past interpretation of God, how then can their followers be expected to adhere to previous religious tradition?" Anton Szandor LaVey

"An' in it harm none, do what ye will" Wiccan Rede
